Teenage boy dies in freak accident at Aranos

REHOBOTH, 31 JAN (NAMPA) – A 14-year-old boy died after he was run over by a tractor of the town’s abattoir in Aranos in the Hardap Region on Wednesday.
The Namibian Police Force's crime investigations coordinator for the region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay, told Nampa on Thursday that the incident happened at around 12h00 on Wednesday.
“It is alleged that a young boy was run over by the tractor of the abattoir on its way to the dumping site to drop off the intestines of the animals which were slaughtered for that day. According to information, the boy was among a group of young boys who usually target the tractor with its load, and then jump on it while it is moving to grab the intestines before others,” Clay said.
According to police reports, the boy in the process of jumping, slipped and landed under the tyres that ran over him and injured him seriously.
The victim was rushed to Mariental State Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
He was identified as Elricho Kooper.
His next of kin have been informed of his death.
No arrest was made and a culpable homicide case was opened. Police investigations continue.
