Murder accused enters 'not guilty' plea

KEETMANSHOOP, 31 JAN (NAMPA) – A 29-year-old man accused of murdering a 39-year-old man here in May last year, pleaded not guilty to the murder charge levelled against him.
The accused, Benny Pieters, pleaded under section 119 when he made another court appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
He appeared before Magistrate Murray Shikongo, who postponed his case to 14 March 2019, for the Prosecutor General to decide or determine if investigations are fully completed and for the continuation of trial.
The State was represented by Lewis Chigunwe.
Pieters is represented by legal aid lawyer, Quinton Haoseb.
During his second court appearance on 12 July 2018, Pieters was granted bail of N.dollars 2 500 by Shikongo on condition that he reports to the Bethanie Police Station every Friday between 09h00 and 17h00.
Pieters allegedly stabbed Moses Uapingathana in the chest with a knife at a shebeen in the TransNamib residential area on 12 May.
Uapingathana died on the spot.
