Woman sets house of alleged rapist on fire

KEETMANSHOOP, 30 JAN (NAMPA) - A 29-year-old man died after the house he was sleeping in, was set on fire in Lϋderitz in the early hours of Tuesday.
Namibian Police Force //Kharas Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Wednesday that the deceased was identified as Sebastian Jansen.
Mubebo said the suspect, a 21-year-old woman set the house on fire after she was allegedly raped by the deceased and another man.
“It is alleged that the suspect was drinking together with the deceased and the other man, they then went to the deceased’s house where they were smoking drugs, after which she was assaulted and raped,” Mubebo explained.
The suspect then left and when she returned later, she found the deceased and the other man asleep.
“She set the house on fire with the intention to kill them out of anger and as a result one of the men died while the other one sustained serious injuries, he is admitted at the Lϋderitz State Hospital but in a stable condition,” he added.
The alleged rape incident happened between 02h00 and 03h00, while the house was set on fire at around 04h00 on Tuesday morning.
Both incidents happened in the Area Two residential area at the southern town.
The 21-year-old woman, who is the victim in the rape case and suspect in the arson case, is due to appear in court on charges of murder, attempt murder and arson.
Next of kin of the deceased have been informed and police investigations continue.
