SWAKOPMUND, 30 JAN (NAMPA) – The case of the 17-year-old accused of the murder of his cousin was on Wednesday postponed to 09 April 2019 to afford the accused time to find legal representation.
The case was presided over by Magistrate Conchitta Olivier.
The teenager’s initial charge of attempted murder was changed to that of murder, after the victim he allegedly stabbed succumbed to his head injuries after close to two weeks after the incident took place.
The accused is currently under the care of his father as he is still a minor.
He is also undergoing juvenile screening as requested by State Prosecutor, Dalon Quickfall, during the accused’s first court appearance on 10 January 2018.
The accused and his 23-year-old cousin, Lorenzo Kharixub, were allegedly involved in an altercation at their residence in the Mondesa residential area on 01 January before the accused then allegedly stabbed his cousin in the head.
According to Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator in the Namibian Police Force, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, although the deceased was admitted to hospital shortly after it happened, the incident was only reported to the police a week after it took place.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine what led to the argument between the suspect and the accused.
