WINDHOEK, 30 JAN (NAMPA) – The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) will take place much later during the year, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo, has said.

Speaking at a media conference in the capital on Wednesday, Ekandjo explained that after three years, the Executive Committee positions were bound to go out on tender this year, but the process took longer than expected.

“We are committed to the event and have committed to the NAMAs for another three years, which will see both MTC and NBC [Namibian Broadcasting Corporation] spearheading the event for 11 years with this new commitment,” he said.

Ekandjo further explained that the exact date for entries is expected to start towards the end of February and that the qualifying entry rules will remain the same, stating that only albums released between 01 December 2017 and 31 November 2018 will qualify for entry.

“We expect to close [the] call for entries at the end of March 2019 to give artists a month to submit,” he said.

Ekandjo noted that announcements for the nomination launch as well as the main awards ceremony will be communicated in due course and that this change is only for this year.

“The call for entries for the 2020 awards will go back to the normal dates; meaning we will call for entries for next year’s event in October as usual,” he said.
