OTJIWARONGO, 28 JAN (NAMPA) - The Otjiwarongo Municipality has been operating without its chairperson of the management committee (MC) as a date for her swearing in is yet to be decided upon.
In an interview with Nampa on Monday, the town’s mayor, Bennes Haimbondi, said the swearing in of Hilda Jesaja, who was re-elected as a member of the management committee on 28 December 2018, will happen once an agreement is reached between the magistrate’s court and the council regarding the availability of a magistrate to preside over it.
The MC deals with the approval, tasking and the directing of the council’s administrative management team of managers and daily tasks.
Otjiwarongo Municipality Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ismael /Howoseb in an interview with Nampa on Monday also confirmed that his council is operating without the MC, saying Jesaja is still to be sworn in to the position she held since four years ago.
“This is because she was not present on 28 December 2018 when the local authority councillors held their annual internal elections for the office bearers for 2018 and 2019,” said /Howoseb.
/Howoseb did not provide details on why Jesaja was absent on the day of the swearing in of the local authority councillors.
'At the moment, the MC members per their seating are electing a chairperson among themselves for that specific meeting taking place,' /Howoseb said.
Efforts to get comment from Jesaja proved fruitless as her phone went unanswered.
