24-year-old man commits suicide at Usakos

WINDHOEK, 28 JAN (NAMPA) - A 24-year-old man allegedly hanged himself at a farm situated 15 kilometers outside of Usakos in the Erongo Region at around 11h12 on Friday.
According to a crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Monday, the body of Michael Evenson, who was a shepherd on the farm, was found hanging from the roof of his room with a rope around his neck.
It is alleged that Evenson was alone on the farm at the time of the incident.
No suicide note was found and no foul play is suspected.
His next of kin were informed and police investigation continues.
In a similar incident, Bernhild Totwe, 27, was found hanging from the roof of his room with an electrical cord around his neck at Epukiro, in the Omaheke Region. It is suspected that the suicide incident happened between 02h00 and 07h00 on Saturday.
No suicide note was found and no foul play is suspected.
His next of kin were informed and police investigation continues.
NamPol also recorded one case of rape and murder in the Oshikoto Region over the weekend, where a 49-year-old woman, identified as Laina Naimbundu, was raped and murdered by a 21-year-old man at Tsintsabis around 22h00 on Friday.
It is alleged that the male suspect hacked the victim to death with a Panga on her throat and left shoulder.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Her next of kin were informed and police investigation continues.
