#Aonin Chief Kooitjie dies

REHOBOTH, 25 JAN (NAMPA) – Chief of the #Aonin (Topnaar) Traditional Authority (TA) and Chairperson of the Nama Traditional Leaders Association (NTLA), Gaob Seth Madawa Kooitjie passed away 15 minutes before midnight on Thursday.
A statement availed to this agency on Friday said Kooitjie was declared dead upon arrival at the Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay after he fell at home and his children tried in vain to resuscitate him.
The statement reads that members of the NTLA, Topnaar TA and the family will have a meeting on Sunday after church in Walvis Bay, followed by an opening memorial service at the family home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced thereafter.
Kooitjie has been the Chief of the #Aonin TA since 1998 and served the NTLA till his passing.
He also orchestrated and oversaw many successful coronations of various Nama Chiefs.
Chief of the |Hôa |Aran ||Aixa ||Aes, Gaob Eduard Afrikaner described the late Kooitjie as a hardworking leader.
Afrikaner said as chairperson of the NTLA, Kooitjie played a pivotal role during his coronation in 2016 where he advised and guided him.
“May the soul of Gaob Kooitjie rest in peace. Our heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the #Aonin TA,” Afrikaner concluded.
