RUNDU, 25 JAN (NAMPA) – The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) says the halting of the placement of interns in the public service is a temporary measure.
The Secretary to Cabinet under the OPM issued a circular earlier this month instructing various government offices to suspend the placement of interns until further notice.
In a statement issued Thursday for clarification, the OPM said the content of the circular was misconstrued to mean that there will be no more placement of interns in the public service.
“The halting is a temporary measure while the Office of the Prime Minister is engaging Offices, Ministries and Agencies and other stakeholders to resolve some technical issues,” it said.
The temporary measures only applies to graded interns, pupils and assistant ranks (under training) as defined in the Personnel Administrative Measures.
“The measure contained in this circular is not applicable to other students who are seeking placement for job attachment for a period not longer than three months,” the statement said.
The consultation process is expected to be completed next month and the internship programme is then expected to resume.
