WINDHOEK, 24 JAN (NAMPA) - A group of taxi drivers came to the rescue of a Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) student when a man allegedly held her at gunpoint on Tuesday behind the campus library.

In a video seen by Nampa, the group of taxi drivers tied the suspect up with rope while surrounded by other members of the public.

The police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect.

Responding to questions sent by Nampa on Wednesday, Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Kauna Shikwambi however said the 27-year-old student withdrew the case against the suspect on Wednesday without providing any reasons for her decision.

She said withdrawing cases allows criminals to continue committing crime.

“I therefore encourage every victim of crime to not withdraw cases. Yes, matters of the law are gradual processes but we need to be patient and never fear reprisal and instead, allow justice take its course,” Shikwambi said.
