WINDHOEK, 24 JAN (NAMPA) – Tigers Football Club and University of Namibia (UNAM) played out a drab 1-1 draw at the Sam Nujoma Stadium Wednesday night.
The match saw both teams failing to entertain a decent crowd that attended the game as the two sets of players failed to produce proper goal scoring chances.
Tigers were the first to threaten when Terdius Uirab shot wide in the eighth minute.
However, Ananias Haitembu gifted the Shandumbala-based Tigers with an own goal after turning the ball into his own net in the 16th minute.
This came after Mapenzi Muwanei’s shot had been pared back into play and Haitembu’s attempted clearance bounced off his shin into the net.
Tiger’s Himeezembi Hengombe then had his powerful swerving shot tipped for a corner kick by Charles Uirab in the 20th minute, before Jackson Johannes shot wide.
UNAM had their own chances as Tara Katupose headed over from a free kick in the 27th minute, before Willem Mwedihanga’s curling shot from a free kick was punched over for a corner by Tigers goalie Immanuel Immanuel.
The last piece of action from the first half saw Tara Katupose’s shot blocked by Ferdinard Karongee, leaving the scoreline at 1-0 in favour of Tigers.
In the second half Tigers dropped the pace of the game as they sought to frustrate UNAM, but that backfired as UNAM found the equaliser when Edmund Kambanda received a pass from Katupose at the edge of the 18 yard box.
His powerful shot settled into the corner of the net to put his side level at 1-1 and making sure both sides share the spoils.
The result means Tigers moves to third place from fifth on the log on 14 points from 10 matches, while UNAM move up, above Civics, into 11th from 12th place from the same number of games.
