WINDHOEK, 23 JAN (NAMPA) The first derby match between Katutura giants Orlando Pirates (OP) and Black Africa (BA) promises to produce fireworks as both teams have different aims in the league.
This came out during a press conference on Wednesday at Football House where captains of the two teams spelled out their aspirations for the match scheduled for the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Dynamo Fredericks, the captain of log leading BA, said they are expecting a tough match from OP, who have not been playing well of late.
The Dolam derby will produce beautiful football, hence we call upon all the fans for both teams to make their way to the stadium and cheer the clubs to victory, he said.
His views were echoed by OPs captain Vico Gaseb, who said derby matches are not won by history and that the young players in his side will be looking at making history of their own.
The result depends on what the players do in 90 minutes of the match day. We are underdogs for the match because of the fact that we are rebuilding and our technical team recently changed. There is no extra motivation needed for us besides positive results, he said.
BA coach Paulus Shipanga said he was relishing his first derby and his team will not take the game lightly.
One of the requirements I was given at the beginning of the season was not to lose this game. Come Saturday the team has to deliver victory against OP. They have a good team with a good technical bench. They are a top team so we must not take them lightly, Shipanga said.
OPs newly appointed assistant coach, Jeffrey Roman said they are facing probably the best team in the league currently.
Their aim is to win the league and ours is to move away from our current position on the log. We need to get a positive result from this match which is anything from a point to three points, he said.
BA are currently on top of the log with 20 points from nine matches while their arch rivals are propping up the log with five points from the same number of games.
