ONGWEDIVA, 22 JAN (NAMPA) – Former Helao Nafidi Town councillor of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), Frieda Kashikatu in December last year rejoined the council, replacing Vilho Shimooshili who has resigned from the party.
Acting secretary of the RDP in the Ohangwena Region, Walter Ndakondja confirmed this in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday.
Kashikatu represented the RDP in the Helao Nafidi Town Council between 2009 and 2015 before losing her portfolio to Shimooshili in the last regional and local authority elections.
Shimooshili, along with the party’s former Ohangwena regional secretary, Timo Shikongo and several others, resigned from the RDP in August last year, citing infighting for positions within the national leadership of the RDP, simultaneously giving up his position in the town council.
Ndakondja described Kashikatu as a tested RDP cadre who has been focused and committed to the plights of all Namibians irrespective of creed, race, sex and political persuasions.
“She has equally demonstrated to be a force to be reckoned with, who, despite political harassment and intimidation by the ruling party stood firm and did not waver in carrying out RDP activities in the region,” Ndakondja narrated.
He went on to say Kashikatu, now that she has rejoined the Helao Nafidi Town Council, will continue to hold the Swapo councillors accountable during the council deliberations and ensure that the electorate gets a better deal.
According to Ndakondja, Kashikatu’s representation in the council signifies that the RDP is well and kicking in the region and in the country at large.
The mayor and council chairperson of Helao Nafidi, Eliaser Nghipangelwa, also confirmed to this news agency on Tuesday that Kashikatu in December rejoined the council as the RDP representative.
