REHOBOTH, 21 JAN (NAMPA) – Namibian Premier League (NPL) outfit Blue Waters on Friday appointed former Life Fighters and Blue Boys coach Christy ||Guruseb as its new head coach, succeeding Cliff Ntsoereng, who was relieved of his duties on 10 January.
A statement availed to this agency on Sunday said the decision to appoint ||Guruseb was a difficult one as the overall standard of candidates was high.
It further said when the Executive Committee sat to discuss the ideal candidate for the position, they wanted someone who could come in and get the very best out of the players and also bring through some young talent emanating from the youth structures.
According to the statement ||Guruseb has a distinguished background as a coach and a proven track record of developing youth players, with many of them going on to star for top Namibian teams and abroad.
The statement added that when Blue Waters began their search, they were determined to find someone who would fit the club’s core values and ||Guruseb’s philosophical views and style of play unequivocally aligned with the team.
Confirming his appointment ||Guruseb said his immediate and pressing issue will be to steer the team away from relegation.
“My first step would be to get the team away from relegation and our target for the season will be to end in the top eight. We still need a goalkeeper, centre back and a striker, which we can get once the transfer window opens,” he said.
He will be deputised by Reinhold Sheya Andimba with Benna Louw filling in as team manager.
||Guruseb also coached Civics, Ramblers, Orlando Pirates and the Hardap regional Under 20 team.
Blue Waters are currently 14th on the NPL log with six points from eight matches played.
