WINDHOEK, 18 JAN (NAMPA) – Swapo Party Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa has called for order and discipline in the party prior to the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking at the party’s official opening for 2019 here Friday, Shaningwa stressed that in order for members to take on this year’s tasks, there is a need to maintain order and discipline.
“In order to maintain order and discipline we should be ready to follow the rules, procedures, constitutional provisions and the code of conduct for members,” she said.
The SG emphasised that as per President Hage Geingob’s declaration of 2019 as a year of accountability, the same applies to the party.
She noted that this year Swapo must account to the electorate who gave the party the mandate to govern Namibia until 21 March 2020.
“This year we have a lot of activities lined up. I therefore appeal to all party structures to ensure that they fulfil their mandate at different levels,” she said.
Shaningwa noted that with the national elections taking place in November this year, Swapo’s internal democratic processes to identify 96 candidates for the National Assembly should follow procedure.
“I appeal to all of us to work together in the spirit of solidarity at all times. Swapo is our mother… We will be facing these elections together as a united team and everyone must understand this,” she said.
