MARIENTAL, 17 DEC (NAMPA) – A minor girl from Aranos and another from Kalkrand in the Hardap Region were allegedly raped on different days over the past week.
Chief Inspector Asser Kapukare of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Mariental told Nampa on Tuesday that the Aranos victim is six-years-old, while the girl from Kalkrand is 13.
He said the six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 21-year-old suspect at Farm Alexandria between Tuesday and Saturday last week.
The suspect, Joseph Novaseb, is not related to the victim, and had been staying at the farm with the victim and her parents.
“The parents realised there is something wrong with the girl and took her to hospital, where the doctor informed them that she was raped.
The suspect was arrested, and appeared in an Aranos court on Monday,” Kapukare explained.
Police could not give further details on how the suspected rape took place, but confirmed that the girl is now in a better condition.
Novaseb was remanded in custody, and his case was postponed to 06 January next year.
Kapukare further said that the Kalkrand rape incident took place on Saturday at an unknown time when a 25-year-old truck driver allegedly called the 13-year-old girl into his truck, and raped her.
The suspect was arrested, and is expected to appear in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
