WINDHOEK, 15 JAN (NAMPA) – University of Namibia (Unam) Football Club and Civics played out to a goalless draw in an eighth round MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) match played at Sam Nujoma Stadium on Monday evening.

The two teams failed to produce any meaningful chances as they chose to cancel each other in the middle of the park, with both sets of strikers opting to shoot from long range.

Unam however were the better team in possession, with Tara Katupose’s powerful header from a corner crashing against the upright in the fourth minute.

Civics responded 20 minutes later with Harold Kandaera shooting straight into the arms of Charles Uirab, in goals for Unam.

Katupose then headed wide in the 36th minute before shooting tamely at Welcome Nail two minutes later to leave the teams tied at 0-0 at halftime.

The second half started off in a similar fashion to the first, with Edwin Kamaundju twice shooting directly at Nail from long range.

Civics also had an attempt when Steven Gariseb passed the ball to Uirab, who skewed a well-worked effort wide in the dying moments of the match.

Willem Mwedihanga was the closest to opening the scoring twice from the centre circle, first when his powerful shot troubled Nail before sailing over bar and when his other effort was dealt with calmly by Nail.

The NPL continues with Orlando Pirates facing Okahandja United at the same venue on Tuesday, before the two coastal teams Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters clash on Wednesday at Kuisebmund Stadium.

Black Africa will then clash with Tura Magic on Thursday and Tigers play Young African on Friday at the Sam Nujoma stadium.
