OTJIWARONGO, 14 JAN (NAMPA) - Nearly 100 jobseekers at Otjiwarongo on Monday gathered at the D&M Rail Construction site office in search of employment.
Its manager, Leon Steyn informed Nampa here Monday that when the company commenced its business for 2019, hundreds of people gathered outside the office, demanding to be recruited.
He explained that unfortunately there will be no recruitment at Otjiwarongo this year since the upgrading of the 170 kilometres railway line between Otavi and Kalkfeld, which started in 2013, has been completed.
The next railway upgrade is between Otavi and Tsumeb.
“As company policy, we cannot recruit people from Otjiwarongo, we would rather do so in Otavi or Tsumeb for our next project,” he added.
The site manager noted that over 100 general labourers and skilled and semi-skilled workers currently work for the company.
Marcel Oaseb, 28, said he heard from former employees of the company that about 100 people might be recruited during this week.
“I am looking for any type of job,” said Oaseb.
The 26-year-old Marcella Khaebes said she would also take any work that comes her way, adding that since she completed Grade 12 some six years ago she has been at home, unemployed.
D&M Rail Construction has completed construction work on the railway line between Tsumeb, Ondangwa and Oshikango in the Oshikoto, Oshana and Ohangwena regions.
