OTJIWARONGO, 14 JAN (NAMPA) - A 27-year-old man arrested on Thursday night at Otjiwarongo for the alleged possession of 57 full tables of mandrax, made an appearance in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he was granted bail of N.dollars 1000.

The accused, Ricardo Eibeb, appeared before Magistrate Yvette Fredericks, who postponed the case to 27 February 2019 to allow for further police investigations.

The accused’s legal rights were explained to him and he opted to defend himself in court.

Public prosecutor Elana Doeses represented the State in the matter.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Friday told Nampa in an interview that Eibeb was travelling from Windhoek to Outjo at the time of his arrest at about 21h50 on Thursday night.

He was arrested at a mobile roadblock on the Otjiwarongo-Outjo road during a regular police patrol after NamPol officers searched the motor vehicle he was travelling in and found the tablets in his luggage.

The drugs are estimated to carry a street value of more than N.dollars 6 800.
