Rehoboth man commits suicide

REHOBOTH, 12 JAN (NAMPA) – A 53-year-old Rehoboth man allegedly committed suicide on Saturday after he shot himself with rifle through his chest.

The Namibian Police Force’s acting Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Hardap Region, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hauwanga told Nampa on Saturday that the incident happened at around 08h30 on Saturday morning.

“It is alleged that on Saturday at about 08h30 at Block D in Rehoboth in the field, a Namibian male, 53, drove to the field with his Toyota Hilux pick-up with his licensed 270 caliber rifle and ammunition,” he said.

He then allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself through the chest with his rifle. Hauwanga said the deceased was still alive when the medical staff arrived at the scene, but he died later at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rehoboth.

The reason for the suicide is unknown as no suicide note was left behind.

The deceased was identifies as Joseph Jacobus Izaaks.

His next of kin have been informed of his death and an inquest docket has been opened.
