KEETMANSHOOP, 11 JAN (NAMPA) – Director of Education, Arts and Culture in the //Kharas Region, /Awebahe //Hoeseb has challenged Principals in his region to teach promotional subject and to lead by example at their respective schools.
Speaking at a meeting with school principals here on Thursday, //Hoeseb said principals should not be mere administrative manager and leaders but must also be teaching instructional leaders.
He said principals should teach subjects such accounting, mathematics, life science, history and others as they once were teachers before becoming principals.
“Refrain from just teaching subjects such as home ecology, arts and religions and adopt a transformational leadership and change management culture for higher performance,” //Hoeseb urged.
He further said that principals must ensure that their monitoring and evaluation of the quality of teaching and learning should be based on the imperatives as outlined in the National Standards and Performance Indicators (NSPI) and conduct a school self-evaluation on a regular basis to check conformity with the NSPI.
“Employ the learning support programme fully and make sure that teachers prepare properly for lessons,” he added.
In conclusion //Hoeseb said principals must mind their language and the tone of their voices whenever they address teachers, learners and parents.
“Sound interpersonal relations are essential if we would want to inspire those that we supervise to improve on their productivity levels and commitment to duty. That is why respectful proper communication for and with understanding is imperative,” he stressed.
He went on to say that principals must create an inviting image of their respective schools so that all learners and staff would be proud to associate themselves with such institutions.
