NamPol seizes drugs worth over N.dollars 4.8 million in Dec

WINDHOEK, 11 JAN (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has seized drugs worth over N. dollars 4.8 million and arrested 78 suspects countrywide during December 2018.
A media statement issued by NamPol’s Head of the Public Relations Division, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi here on Friday, said the drugs confiscated include cannabis, mandrax tablets, cocaine powder and crack cocaine from a South African, four Zambian nationals and 73 Namibians.
It explained that the cannabis, which weighed 480 481 kilograms and valued at N.dollars 4 804 810, was the largest amount of drugs confiscated, followed by 274 mandrax tablets valued at N.dollars 32 880.
The cocaine powder weighed 11,4 grams and is valued at N.dollars 5 700, while the 24 units of crack cocaine were valued at N.dollars 2 400, the statement further read.
Upon enquiry, Kanguatjivi pointed out that the drugs were seized as a result of police operations during the festive season and were found in houses and while in transit.
The Deputy Commissioner added that most of the drugs were seized in the Khomas, Erongo and Southern regions.
