KEETMANSHOOP, 11 JAN (NAMPA) – Four community hostels in the //Kharas Region’s Berseba Constituency received donations of food from Kaiseb Fishing Company on Thursday.
The food, valued at N.dollars 10 000, was handed over to the constituency office, which selected the recipients.
The hostels are situated at the JA Kahuika, Blouwes, SC Vries and Kutenhoas primary schools.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony in Keetmanshoop, Berseba Constituency Councillor Dawid Boois explained that the communities depend on small livestock and subsistence farming and face a prolonged drought.
“With the economic downturn it is also not possible for the community to assist schools,” he added.
Principal of JA Kahuika Primary School, Thomas Oarum thanked the fishing company and constituency office for the gesture.
“The government is really doing its best, but the assistance we get from Government is not enough. The donation has come at the right time and we can even use the money meant for food to maintain other things,” he said.
The foods donated include maize meal, cooking oil, canned fish, sugar and bread flour.
