SWAKOPMUND, 10 JAN (NAMPA) – A 17-year-old man appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s court on Thursday, on a charge of attempted murder against his cousin.
The teenager, whose name cannot be revealed as he is still a minor, appeared before Magistrate Conchita Olivier.
The accused allegedly stabbed his 23-year-old cousin with a knife in the head, which penetrated the skull, causing a serious open wound.
The victim was admitted at the Mediclinic Cottage Hospital and is in a critical condition.
The incident happened on 01 January 2019 during an alleged argument at the suspect and victim's residence in the Mondesa residential area, but the case was only reported to the Namibian Police Force on Tuesday, after which the accused was arrested.
During his first appearance, the minor, accompanied by his father, opted to seek an attorney of his own to represent him during the case.
State Prosecutor Dalon Quickfall requested for a juvenile screening and therefore asked for a postponement of the case to 30 January 2018.
The accused has been released to the custody of his father and police investigations in the matter continue.
