Pensioner robbed and raped at Omaruru

SWAKOPMUND, 10 JAN (NAMPA) – A 60-year-old woman was raped and robbed in her flower shop at Omaruru on Tuesday.
A crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Thursday said the incident occurred around 19h00.
A 19-year-old suspect allegedly entered the shop belonging to the Chinese national and hit her over the head with an iron rod.
“This caused an open wound on the victim’s head. The suspect had sexual intercourse with the woman under coercive circumstances before fleeing with items valued at around N.dollars 3 700,” Iikuyu said.
The victim was taken to the Omaruru State Hospital for treatment but was not admitted.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday in Omaruru’s Ozondjie residential are and all stolen items were recovered.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
