Regional youth tennis tournament underway in capital

WINDHOEK, 09 JAN (NAMPA) - Twelve Southern African countries are gathered in Windhoek for the under-14 and under-16 regional tennis championships taking place from 07 to 15 January 2019 at Central Tennis Club and Sport Club Windhoek.
The tournament is being hosted in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Confederations of African Tennis (CAT) and Namibia Tennis Association (NTA).
NTA vice president Clive Gawanab confirmed to Nampa that the tournament will be in singles, doubles and group matches.
The singles matches will end on Friday, while the group matches will commence on the same day and end on the 15th of January 2019.
Gawanab said that this is the first tournament of the year and the players will keep playing various matches to accumulate points that will qualify them to the major tournaments such as the Africa Junior Championship that will take place in a yet to be announced country towards the end of this year.
Namibia is represented in all age groups with six girls in the under-16 group and four boys in the same age group while six players are competing in the under-14 girls and five boys in the under-14 category.
