Baby dies after falling from bed

08 JAN WINDHOEK (NAMPA) – Five-month-old Lavinia Erastus was on Sunday found dead, stuck between a bed and a zinc plate after she allegedly fell from the bed in her mother's room at Uutha location in Onyuulaye area of the Oshikoto Region.
The incident happened at around 23h00.
A crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force here on Tuesday explained that the mother, who is a bartender, allegedly took the child who fell asleep to the room before going back to work.
The deceased's next of kin have been informed of her death and police investigations into the matter continue.
In a similar incident, 51-year-old Kapanga Muyenga was found dead at a shebeen at Karuci village in the Kavango East Region at around 8h00 on Sunday.
It is alleged that the deceased was in the company of his wife when he collapsed at the shebeen on Saturday and as she was under the impression that he was intoxicated, left him and went home until the next morning when the deceased was found dead at the same spot where he had collapsed.
His next of kin have been informed of his death and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, an abortion case was reported on Sunday at Olunkono in Ondangwa, where a 33-year-old woman allegedly aborted her unborn foetus in her bedroom and disposed of it in the toilet at around 00h00.
The suspect has been arrested and detained at the police holding cells at Ondangwa pending further investigations.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old Angolan male allegedly raped a 25-year-old Namibian woman at his residence between 23h00 on Wednesday and 02h00 on Thursday last week in the capital.
The suspect allegedly took the victim to his residence after a party in Windhoek West and had sexual intercourse with her against her will.
He has been arrested and appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate Court on Monday.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
