Okakarara accident claims one life, 12 injured

OKAKARARA, 06 JAN (NAMPA) - An accident near Okakarara Saturday night claimed the life of a 50-year-old woman after the vehicle she was travelling in hit a warthog and rolled several times.
The deceased has been identified as Almaline Kauami from Farm Okarundu in the Okakarara district.
The accident occurred less than 20 kilometres outside Okakarara around 20h10.
The Namibian Police Force’s Acting Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigation Coordinator, Chief Inspector Moses Snewe told Nampa on Sunday the Isuzu double cab with 13 occupants was headed from the direction of Okakarara to Windhoek when it hit the warthog.
The 53-year-old driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled.
“Nine children and four adults, including the driver, were travelling in the vehicle,” said Snewe.
Twelve people sustained slight to serious injuries and were admitted to the Okakarara State Hospital.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver and police investigations continue.
