Man arrested for alleged murder of girlfriend near Maltahöhe

REHOBOTH, 03 JAN (NAMPA) – A 32-year-old man was arrested at a farm in the Maltahöhe District on Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death.
The Namibian Police Force’s Acting Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Hardap Region, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Petrus Hauwanga told Nampa on Thursday the incident occurred between 01h00 and 03h00.
“It is alleged that the accused stabbed the deceased in the stomach with a sharp object. She was taken to the Mariental State Hospital, where she died,” he said.
The deceased was identified as Elizabeth Swartbooi, 31.
The suspect, whose name cannot be revealed as he is yet to appear in court, was arrested and remains in custody while investigations continue.
Swartbooi’s next of kin of have been informed.
