OTJIWARONGO, 02 JAN (NAMPA) - A 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by hanging himself with a belt at farm Ombujongupa in the Okahandja District.
The deceased has been identified as Sedney Hambira who lived with his parents on the farm.
Acting Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Moses Snewe on Wednesday confirmed to Nampa that Hambira’s body was discovered by his 34-year-old brother at 09h00 Tuesday morning.
“He was found hanging with a belt tied to a pole inside the house by his brother,” he said.
Snewe said the deceased did not leave any suicide note behind, and the motive for his suicide is therefore still unknown to the police.
In a similar incident, 15-year-old Nyambe Mushabati allegedly also hanged himself at his parents’ house in Okahandja between 23h30 on Monday night and 08h30 on Tuesday morning, after he apparently told a close relative that he failed his Grade nine.
According to Snewe, Mushabati had been hiding his school report card of December 2018, as he was not willing to share it with anyone.
“He only did so on 29 December 2018, and his body was found hanging with a red jersey around the neck on Tuesday,” he added.
Both his parents were in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region when the incident occurred.
No foul play is suspected so far in both incidents.
Inquest cases have been opened at the Okahandja Police Station and police investigations continue.
