WINDHOEK, 01 JAN (NAMPA) – The year 2019 will be the ‘Year of Accountability’ and politicians will be expected to account to the electorate, President Hage Geingob has said.
In his New Year’s message issued on Sunday, the president said politicians will have to detail steps taken so far to achieve developmental objectives.
“When I deliver my State of the Nation Address, I will give a detailed accountability report while outlining the agenda for the remainder of the term,” Geingob said.
He further noted that Government would continue to pursue its agenda of bringing shared prosperity to the Namibian people.
Reflecting on the past few years, the Head of State said Government has been progressing steadily along its chartered course towards prosperity by focusing its efforts on executing specific actions that would enable the creation of a conducive environment for success.
In 2015, the government began with the ‘Year of Planning’, followed by the ‘Year of Implementation’ in 2016.
Geingob said 2017 was the ‘Year of Re-dedication’, while last year was the ‘Year of Reckoning’.
He called on all Namibians to embrace the dawn of the new year with a sense of optimism and purpose; a sense of vision and a sense of patriotism.
“Let us embrace principles which transcend differences of ethnicity, tribe and community. Let us shun all retrogressive practices, pessimistic tendencies and doom sayings,” Geingob stated.
The country’s success will be guaranteed only if its citizens come together and pull together in the same direction for unity, peace and progress, he added.
