Deceased in train accident at Kombat identified

KOMBAT, 27 DEC (NAMPA) – The identities of two men who were run over by a train in the early hours on Monday morning near Kombat have been revealed.

The Namibian Police Force’s Otjozondjupa Regional Police Commander, Commissioner, Heinrich Tjiveze told Nampa in an interview on Thursday that the men have been identified as Alfred /Uirab, 57, and Alex Muhara, 29.

The two were general farmworkers in the Kombat district, Tjiveze said.

The police commander said Uirab and Muhara were run over by a train that was pulling 60 empty tankers at about 03h30 on Monday morning at Kombat.

He said the men were lying on the tracks when the incident happened and they are suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.

Tjiveze cautioned those residing alongside railway lines to refrain from resting or sleeping anywhere close to them at all times.

The train was travelling from Grootfontein to Otavi at the time of the incident.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
