WINDHOEK, 24 DEC (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) expressed concern about members of the public discharging firearms in the air during Christmas and wedding celebrations.
In a statement issued Monday, NamPol’s Inspector General, Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga said such practice was a direct contravention of the Arms and Ammunition Act 7 of 1996, which deals with the control over the possession of arms and ammunition.
He said anyone found in contravention of the Act would be dealt with by the law.
“It is against this background that a strict warning is hereby issued by NamPol to all firearm owners not to discharge any firearms as a manner of celebration as it is a contravention of the law, as it poses great danger to the public,” he said.
