Crash claims three lives on Oshakati-Omungwelume road

OSHIKUYU, 22 DEC (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Omusati Region confirmed that three people died in a road crash at Oshikuyu village on the Oshakati-Omungwelume road on Friday night.
Warrant Officer Anna Kunga of NamPol’s Public Relations Unit in the region told Nampa in an interview that the head-on collision between two pick-up trucks took place at 20h40.
The driver of the one pickup and his passenger died on the spot, while one of the three persons traveling in the other vehicle died on the way to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
“It is alleged that a Toyota pick-up, which was driving from Oshakati to Omungwelume, and a Nissan pick-up driving from Omungwelume towards Oshakati, collided head-on,” stated Kunga.
Kunga said the next of kin of the three deceased persons, identified as Elikana Nghinyenavali , 38, Tadeus Haihambo , 41, and 43-year-old Peter Nghishidimbwa, have already been informed.
Another crash between two sedans also occurred on the same road at Onambedi village on Saturday morning, but Kunga said three people, who were in each of the vehicles, survived.
“Five of them sustained slight injuries and were taken to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital and are in a stable condition,” Kunga said.
