Deceased in Okahandja-Otjiwarongo road collision identified

OTJIWARONGO, 22 DEC (NAMPA) – The two deceased persons in the collision that occurred on Friday morning on the Okahandja-Otjiwarongo B1 road have been identified.

Namibian Police Force’s Otjozondjupa Regional Commander, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze told Nampa on Saturday that the deceased have been identified by their close relatives as Gift Kahale, 33, and a 54-year-old Julia Namaela Kalumbu.

Tjiveze said Kahale was the driver of the sedan, while Kalumbu a passenger.

The two died instantly in the early hours of Friday morning after the sedan they were travelling in collided head-on with a minibus on the Okahandja-Otjiwarongo B1 road at about 02h00 around north of Okahandja.

The minibus, with three occupants including its 27-year-old driver was traveling from Otjiwarongo and the sedan from the opposite direction.

“At approximately 70 kilometres north of Okahandja, the two vehicles collided head-on in the middle of the road, killing the driver of the sedan and his female passenger,” said Tjiveze.

The occupants in the minibus survived the accident with slight injuries and were taken to the Okahandja State Hospital shortly after the accident.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
