WINDHOEK, 18 DEC (NAMPA) – Cuban doctor Pedro Viera who is accused of rape by a colleague, has been granted bail on Tuesday by the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.
Viera, 47, was arrested last week Tuesday and made his first court appearance the following day.
His lawyer, Kadhila Amoomo, managed to get him out of jail.
The 33-year-old accuser told police Viera visited her on 05 December 2018 at her flat of the Windhoek State Hospital doctors’ accommodation facility.
The exact chain of events that led to the rape allegations are not yet known at this stage, but the victim claimed Viera made sexual advances at her before, but she refused.
She said he instructed her to take a bath after the incident to get rid of the evidence and threatened to kill her.
Pedro, however, maintains it was consensual intercourse and denied ever threatening the victim.
The state was represented by Prosecutor Palmer Kumalo.
