ONGWEDIVA, 16 DEC (NAMPA) – An Angolan woman was on Friday arrested at the Onoolongo village in the Omusati Region’s Oshikuku Constituency after allegedly killing her six-month-old baby.
The woman is expected to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder on Monday.
Warrant Officer Anna Kunga of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Unit in the region told Nampa in a telephonic interview on Sunday that the 31-year-old suspect allegedly killed her baby girl between 20h00 and 21h00 on Wednesday.
“It is alleged that the suspect held her baby girl by her leg, hit her head three times against a concrete bench which is inside the house’s yard and thereafter threw her over the house’s boundary wall,” Kunga stated.
She added that the police investigation officers found the baby lying at the scene.
The baby, Kunga said, was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where she transferred to due to the seriousness of the injuries she sustained.
The baby died there at around 09h00 on Thursday, Kunga said.
The suspect was also admitted to the same hospital’s psychiatric ward before being released to the trial-awaiting prisoner cells of the Onandjaba NamPol station in the Okalongo Constituency.
The identity of the suspect is withheld pending her court appearance.
