REHOBOTH, 16 DEC (NAMPA) – Rundu-based Julinho Sporting on Saturday defeated fellow newcomers Young Brazilians 4-1 in a match played at the Nau-Aib Stadium in Okahandja, collecting their third win on the road.
Julinho opened the scoring in the 29th minute through the boot of Veikko Mashinde to go into the break with a slender 1-0 lead.
The Lions of the North as Julinho is also known extended their lead two minutes into the second half with Reinold Shavuka scoring their second goal.
Young Brazilians were awarded a penalty in the 63rd minute which was missed by Quera van Staden, but soon after in the 69th minute, they pulled one back through the boot of Vincentius Jobs to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
Julinho upped the pressure midway through the second half and scored their third goal of the match to make it 3-1 with Francisco Almeida hitting the target in the 75th minute.
Substitute Kotokeni Asser made it 4-1 for Julinho in the 93rd minute to secure all three points and move to third on the log.
In a match played in Otjiwarongo at the Mokati Stadium, Mighty Gunners returned to the top of the log after they defeated Tigers 2-1, while at the same venue Life Fighters also known as Kahirona by their ardent fans defeated struggling Katutura giants Orlando Pirates 4-1.
In Walvis Bay at the Kuisebmond Stadium, Eleven Arrows and Tura Magic drew 2-all with Arrows throwing away a 2-0 lead, while in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Citizens played to a 1-all draw with Blue Waters. Black Africa were beaten 1-0 by the visiting Cattle Country Boys Young African.
The only match of Sunday at the Sport Klub Windhoek field will see UNAM FC locking horns with newcomers Okahandja United. On Wednesday African Stars will return to domestic action against troubled Civics at the Sam Nujoma Stadium after their gutsy performance in the Confederation of African Football Champions League against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
