RUNDU, 14 DEC (NAMPA) Rundu will be a hive of activity when the third annual Rundu Colour Festival takes place from 30 December.
The three-day event will be held at the Rundu Sports Stadium.
The festivals founder and organiser, Jerry Kauyu told Nampa Thursday it is a yearly gathering with various sports activities and fun games to engage the youth at the river town.
The main purpose of the event is to create a social refuge for the youth during the festive season and raise funds for orphans and vulnerable children of schools in the Kavango East and West regions, he said.
School uniforms were donated to 60 orphans and vulnerable children at schools in the two regions, Shimpanda Primary School and Karangana Primary School, with money raised during the festival in 2016.
The festival was held in 2015 and 2016 but skipped in 2017 as the venue was used for Namibia Premier League football games and it could not be held elsewhere, the organiser explained.
Kauyu added that this year they are planning to make it bigger and better than the previous years, hence the decision to have it take place over three days.
He added that they do not have any sponsors on board yet, but are hopeful that a few will confirm their participation.
We are still waiting for responses, he said.
Sports activities expected to take place include volleyball, seven-a-side football, netball, tug of war, cycling and a five kilometre mini-marathon.
The event will also feature music performances from M.I.G, DJ Ambizzy and Joac Nongava and tickets can be purchased at Webtickets at various Pick n Pay outlets countrywide.
