WINDHOEK, 11 DEC (NAMPA) Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) announced a new boxing sponsorship deal which sees Salute Boxing Academy joining the MTC Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy as the two beneficiaries for the next three years.
The announcement was made at a press conference in the capital on Tuesday of the new sponsorship deal that will run from December 2018 until December 2021.
The value of each sponsorship is over N.dollars 1.6 million per stable spread over three years. This will culminate to a total N.dollars 4.9 million investment per stable.
John Ekongo, MTCs Corporate Affairs and Communications Manager said despite Salute Boxing being only three years old, the stable has made great strides and so far produced one continental champion and promoted over nine fights.
We are quite excited to welcome Salute Boxing to the MTC family and even more excited to have renewed our current relationship with the MTC Nestor Sunshine club, Ekongo said.
He added that as MTC, they hope that the contribution will continue to make a positive impact to Namibian boxing, and they will hold both promoters to the very high existing standards of accountability.
Ekongo added that as much as they wished to support all boxing stables, they simply cannot afford to as their resources are limited.
We are well aware that there are so many other promoters who struggle with funding because boxing is an expensive sport. As much as we want to accede, we are simply unable to accommodate all of them, because often we are stretched beyond sustainability and carrying capacity, said Ekongo.
In the past six years, MTC has been partnering with Nestor Tobias Sunshine Academy, investing close to N.dollars 17.9 million.
The initial three year sponsorship was worth N.dollars 7.5 million in 2013, before being raised to N.dollars 10.37 million in 2016.
The addition of Salute Boxing Promotions to the deal means Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing Academy will lose over half of the financial support it has been receiving from MTC.
