RUNDU, 09 DEC (NAMPA) Rundu-based Julinho Sporting failed to capitalise on their home-ground advantage when they were held to a 1-1 draw by UNAM Football Club in their Namibia Premier League fourth round encounter on Saturday.
The match, which was played at the Rundu Sports Stadium, started at a slow pace but saw Edmund Kamanda of UNAM nearly giving his side an early lead, but missed a well chipped in free kick by Enzo Mungendje.
As the game progressed, UNAM tried to get past the home teams defence but to no avail.
Despite the pressure, it was Julinho Sportings Manuel Fransisco who put his side in the lead with a well slotted ball into the bottom right corner after running past the visitors defense just before half-time.
In the second half of the game, UNAM kept up their dominance and this presented them with a chance, which Pandeni Kanjabanga tapped in to bring the teams level.
After the game, Julinho Sportings Team Manager, Nelson Luiz said the team started well but the heat got the better of the players who are used to training in the cooler temperatures of the morning and that resulted in their performance.
The weather got hold of us but one point is one point. We just have to take it from here and keep on fighting, said Luiz.
James Britz, UNAMs assistant coach and caretaker, said he was also a little disappointed as the team could not bag the three points needed, adding that the field could also not allow them to maintain possession of the ball and that they will settle for the result.
Julinho Sporting currently has seven points from three games played, winning two games and drawing one, with a game in hand, while UNAM has four points in as many matches, having won one, drawn one and lost the remaining two.
