Otjiwarongo pensioners treated to early Christmas party

OTJIWARONGO, 14 DEC (NAMPA) - More than 500 pensioners from the Orwetoveni residential area in Otjiwarongo gathered at the Swanevelder Community Hall on Friday where they were treated to an early Christmas party.
The party was organised by Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor Otto Ipinge and the office of Otjiwarongo Mayor Hilde Jesaja.
Ipinge told Nampa on Friday more than N.dollars 100 000 was spent on the elders’ Christmas party this year, with contributions coming from his office, the mayor’s office, Prime Minister Hage Geingob, and the Okorusu Mine.
The money was used by maize meal, cooking oil, tomato sauce, tinned fish, and macaroni, amongst others.
“Prime Minister Dr Hage Geingob also donated a cow, which we slaughtered to prepare meat for the elders,” Ipinge said.
On their part, pensioners thanked the councillor, mayor and Government for making it possible for them to have the early Christmas party.
Augustinus Khaxab, 88, asked Ipinge and other organising committee members to make the party an annual event as for him, the lunch is also an opportunity to socialise with his friends.
Plantina Dantu, 84, thanked the Government and Ipinge for remembering the elders, some of whom had played a role in liberating the country from the colonial occupations.
