Police officer fails to appear in court

KEETMANSHOOP, 03 DEC (NAMPA) – A 32-year-old police officer arrested here on Friday after being found in possession of drugs, failed to show up for his first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The officer, whose identity is known but withheld until he appears in court, was granted police bail of N.dollars 500 over the weekend.
Prosecutor Frederick van der Colf in court urged for a warrant of arrest to be issued with immediate effect.
Assistant Magistrate Cornelius Cloete then issued the warrant of arrest. He also said the suspect has until 17 December to report to court and if he fails to do so, the bail money will be forfeited to the State.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for //Kharas, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Sunday the officer was arrested on duty Friday around 23h30.
“He reported for duty under the influence of alcohol and was searched by a member of the Drug Unit. He was found in possession of two half Mandrax tables and one gram of cannabis valued at N.dollars 110,” Mubebo said.
