ONGWEDIVA, 13 DEC (NAMPA) – Ongwediva Mayor Jason Asino was on Friday re-elected for the third time in that position.
Asino will still be deputised by Angelina Angula, with the former presenter of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Oshiwambo Service, John yaKanandjembo, remaining as chairperson of the town’s management committee.
All other members of the seven-member Ongwediva Town Council (TC) retained their positions just like in the case of sister towns Oshakati and Ondangwa, where members of the Swapo-Party dominated councils opted to maintain the status quo.
Maria Kavalela and Malakia Petrus remain the deputy chairperson and ordinary member of the Ongwediva Town Council’s three-member management committee, respectively.
Miriam Katau-Amoomo and Eino Heelu of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) are the ordinary members of the Ongwediva Town Council.
“Our re-election to the various portfolios in the council should not only be seen as a renewed mandate to continue with the status quo, but rather as a challenge to critically look back at our setbacks and to devise new strategies to address those challenges hands-on and take Ongwediva to the next level,” Asino stated in his acceptance speech.
The re-elected councillors are to be in charge of the town’s affairs for the next 12 months.
