WINDHOEK, 13 DEC (NAMPA) - The Khomasdal-North Constituency Office handed over equipment to 24 income-generating projects for the financial year 2013/2014 in the capital on Friday.
The donation is valued at over N.dollars 150 000.
Speaking during the handing-over function, Councillor for the Khomasdal-North Constituency Margaret Mensah-Williams encouraged the beneficiaries to teach others and transfer their skills in their communities while growing their businesses.
She also called on the beneficiaries to support their families and share with their neighbours, because it is Christmas time - a time of sharing.
“Let us stop killing and dumping babies,” the councillor urged, while calling on the community to work together.
She noted that monitoring and evaluation of the projects after they have received equipment is done constantly.
“If projects are not performing or the equipment is not used, such equipment will be taken away and given to other projects in need of such equipment,” she warned.
One of the beneficiaries, Inge Hamases of Inge's Needlework and Tailoring Services received two sewing machines and a packet of threads.
She expressed gratitude to her constituency office, saying: “I am excited and very happy because this is something I did not have.”
Another beneficiary, Wilma Hugo of Wilma's Catering Supplies received glasses and chaffing dishes. She thanked the Khomasdal North Constituency Office, saying that with the new equipment she will go forward and make a success of her business.
Other projects which received equipment include upholstery, printing, Okapana, welding and boiler-making, beauty salons and barbershops, soap-making.
During the same event, Mensah-Williams together with some youth handed over Christmas gift hampers to 50 pensioners in that constituency.
The hampers included rice, sugar, tea, oats, canned fish, biscuits, sweets, bath soap, meat and sausages.
The sponsors of the hampers comprised of First National Bank (FNB) of Namibia, Ready Bites Butchery, Shoprite Checkers, Khomas Regional Council, Singer Distributors, ACE Wholesalers, Driver King of Spin, Khomasdal-North Constituency Youth Group and Genius Educational Software.
