WINDHOEK, 28 NOV (NAMPA) – Namibia Premier League (NPL) and Football Association Cup winners for the 2017/18 season African Stars started their 2018/19 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League campaign on a positive note.
The MTC NPL defending champions held Volcan Club of Comoros to a 0-0 score line on Tuesday afternoon in the Comoros.
The two teams are now scheduled to face each other in the return leg of the preliminary rounds at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on 04 December 2018.
For Stars to realise their dream of playing in the next round of the continent’s lucrative cup competition, they will have to win their match at home because a draw against their opponents with any score line will get them eliminated from the competition.
The winners of the CAF Champions League will walk away with about N.dollars 36 000 000 (U.S. dollars 2.5 million) and also earn a berth to compete at the International Federation of Association Football Club World Cup.
This tournament is contested between the champion clubs from all six continental confederations. The winner faces the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup in the subsequent season’s CAF Super Cup.
