Diamond fest kicks off at Oranjemund

KEETMANSHOOP, 27 NOV (NAMPA) – The Oranjemund Town Council is hosting the sixth edition of the annual Diamond Festival from 27 November to 02 December this year.
The festival commenced at the rugby field of the southern mining town under the theme ‘Tourism matters’ on Tuesday.
In a media statement, the town council said the objective of the festival is to continue marketing the town and to seek investors.
“It also creates a platform for local businesses, corporate, small and medium enterprises as well as tourism establishments in and around town to showcase their products and services directly to the residents and visitors of the town.”
The festival will be officially opened on Friday, but ahead on Wednesday, the town council in collaboration with the Namibia Tourism Board will host a one-day business and tourism networking conference under the theme ‘Mining today, tourism tomorrow’.
The statement indicated that the conference will discuss ways to unlock tourism, business and investment potential as pillars of sustainable economic growth for the town of Oranjemund.
According to the programme, the festival will feature a diamond battle-off DJ competition, potjiekos competition, live music performances and kiddies entertainment.
Other features are the Namaqua dust makers V6 spins, business exhibitors and traditional food stalls.
