More suicide cases reported over the weekend

WINDHOEK, 26 NOV (NAMPA) – A News Editor at a local weekly newspaper allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a belt in the capital between Saturday and Sunday.
The incident, according to a Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s weekend crime report, happened between Saturday and Sunday at the Avis residential area.
The deceased, who has been identified as 58-year-old Guysbertus Johannes Jacobus van Vuuren, reportedly tied a belt onto the stair rails and around his neck.
Van Vuuren’s body was reportedly discovered at 08h59 by neighbours who saw him in the same place for a prolonged period of time through his apartment’s window.
This reportedly prompted them to call his son, who made the gruesome discovery. No foul play is suspected and no suicide note was found.
In another incident, a 66-year-old Angolan national committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope inside his shack in the capital on Friday.
The incident according to the crime report, happened at about 17h35 at Eileen Street in the Greenwell Matongo location.
It is alleged that the deceased last communicated with his daughter at 21h25 and it was the same daughter who found the deceased hanging with a rope around his neck.
No foul play is suspected and police investigations in the matter continue.
Another suicide incident was recorded in the capital after a 13-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself with a belt at around 22h20 on Sunday at Kamberipa Street in Katutura.
The deceased, who has been identified as Ukarerera Kahiuova, was reportedly found hanging by his older brother, who then called the neighbours as the deceased’s mother was not home at the time of the incident.
No suicide note was left and the motive for the suicide is also unknown.
