Otjozondjupa Swapo members to demonstrate against party leaders in region

OTJIWARONGO, 21 NOV (NAMPA) – Some members of the Swapo Party in the Otjozondjupa Region plan to stage a peaceful demonstration against the current party leadership in the region next Tuesday.
This section of members calling themselves a concerned group, issued a notice of the demonstration to the office of Otjozondjupa Swapo Party Regional Coordinator, Susan Hikopua on Wednesday.
The same notice was also sent to the police at Otjiwarongo, requesting their presence during the demonstration.
Otjiwarongo Constituency Councillor and Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Julius Neumbo signed the notice, saying he represents the concerned Swapo members in the region.
Neumbo stated in the notice that the concerned members will demonstrate and hand over a petition to Hikopua at the party’s Otjozondjupa Regional Office in Otjiwarongo at around 10h00.
“Therefore, this letter serves to inform you, comrade Susan Hikopua, to avail yourself on the date as indicated,” states the notice.
Hikopua in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday said she received the letter, adding that she was disappointed as these so-called concerned party members are supposed to know the structures through which to address their concerns, than to demonstrate against their party.
Hikopua said she expects opposition political party members to demonstrate against Swapo and not Swapo members or a regional and local authority councillor on the party ticket.
“I strongly condemn this demonstration. They must follow the party structures to address their problems and concerns than to ‘toi toi’ in the streets against Swapo they claim is their political party,” said Hikopua.
She then called on Swapo members in the region to unite and prepare for next year’s national elections.
