REHOBOTH, 20 NOV (NAMPA) – A teenager arrested in September for the alleged murder and rape of 57-year-old Sarah Jagger, made his fourth appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old boy, whose name cannot be revealed because he is a minor, appeared before Assistant Magistrate Elize Cooper-Steyn on counts of rape and murder; offences he allegedly committed on 30 September 2018.
His case was postponed to 11 December for his legal aid application to be finalised and for further police investigations.
Officers came across Jagger’s severed foot when they responded to a call for help to put out a fire at a homestead at Farm |Aoxas, some five kilometres south of Bahnhoff.
They followed footprints from the burned homestead and later found the victim’s body nearby. They then followed footprints that led them to the accused.
Prosecutor Victor Mutumbulwa appeared for the State in the matter.
The accused was denied bail due to the possibility of interference in police investigations and because the granting of bail was not in the public’s interest.
He is being detained at the Rehoboth Police Station’s holding cells.
